چکیده

This paper describes an extension of the replication/deletion approach for removal of the initialisation bias in the output data of discrete-event simulations. The proposed extension adaptively determines the cutoff index and also respects a user given ratio between the lengths of transient and steadystate period. We show the benefits of the extension inspecting the well-known M/M/1 queue. Using an example from the logistic area, we also point out that the proposed replication/deletion approach is additionally capable of detecting non-ergodic systems, which is a very difficult task for the usual single long-run simulation. The presented examples show that the extended replication/deletion approach leads to about the same qualitative steady-state estimates than single long-run simulations, but needs less time in practice.

Analysis of initial transient deletion for replicated steady-state simulations

Consider the method of independent replications with initial transient deletion for generating confidence intervals for 'steady-state' quantities. To produce intervals with good convergence characteristics, the relative growth rates of the number of replications, the length of each replication, and the deletion period must be controlled. Critical rates for these parameters are determined. The a...

Weber's law orthogonal to the psychometric function

Psychometric function plots the percentage of the correct responses among an entire pool of responses (cumulative probability) in a psychophysical task versus the amount of change in an independent variable. These changes in the independent variable are made with reference to a constant initial value. If this initial value is altered, the psychometric function will change according to Weber’s l...

INVERSE FREQUENCY RESPONSE ANALYSIS FOR PIPELINES LEAK DETECTION USING THE PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION

Inverse Transient Analysis (ITA) is a powerful approach for leak detection of pipelines. When the pipe transient flow is analyzed in frequency domain the ITA is called Inverse Frequency Response Analysis (IFRA). To implement an IFRA for leak detection, a transient state is initiated in the pipe by fast closure of the downstream end valve. Then, the pressure time history at the valve location is...

Warp-Level Parallelism: Enabling Multiple Replications In Parallel on GPU

Stochastic simulations need multiple replications in order to build confidence intervals for their results. Even if we do not need a large amount of replications, it is a good practice to speed-up the whole simulation time using the Multiple Replications In Parallel (MRIP) approach. This approach usually supposes to have access to a parallel computer such as a symmetric multiprocessing machine ...
